Peppol ready: one inbox for e-invoices and every other document

Datamolino already receives Peppol e-invoices in Slovakia, alongside PDFs and receipts. The same inbox is planned for the UK before e-invoicing becomes mandatory.

The UK government has announced that all VAT invoices must be e-invoices from 2029, with Peppol as the core network. Datamolino already runs this inbox in Slovakia and plans to receive UK e-invoices in the same inbox as your PDFs, emailed invoices and receipts, so your team keeps one review, coding, approval and export process.

What Peppol and e-invoicing are

An e-invoice is a structured data file, not a PDF or a scan. The supplier's software sends the invoice data in a standard format, so the receiver does not need to capture it from an image.

Peppol is a network for exchanging those files between businesses and public bodies. Each business connects through a service provider, much like email connects through a mail provider. Peppol exchanges the invoice; each country still sets its own rules on format, scope and reporting.

Slovakia: already live

In Slovakia, e-invoicing becomes mandatory on 1 January 2027. The Slovak Financial Administration states that VAT payers must be able to receive e-invoices and will issue them for selected domestic B2B and B2G transactions, using Peppol. See the Finančná správa e-invoice guidance.

Datamolino's Slovak inbox already receives Peppol e-invoices. They arrive in the same list as PDFs, receipts and scans, keep their original XML, and show as a readable invoice, then go through the usual review, coding, approval and export. Read more on the Slovak e-invoice page (in Slovak).

UK: what is known and what Datamolino plans

In its consultation response, first published on 26 November 2025, HMRC confirms that all VAT invoices must be issued as e-invoices from 2029. This covers B2B and B2G invoices where VAT is due, not sales to consumers. The government says it will publish an implementation roadmap at Budget 2026. Until then, the exact start date and technical detail are not set. Source: GOV.UK consultation response.

On 23 June 2026, the government announced that Peppol will be the core interoperability network for UK e-invoicing. Source: Tax update 2026 summary (both checked 29 September 2026).

Datamolino plans to add Peppol receiving for UK customers. The aim is simple: e-invoices will arrive in the same inbox as PDFs, emailed invoices and receipts, and go through the same steps you use today:

  • Review of supplier, dates, amounts and VAT against the original.
  • Saved coding rules for suppliers and invoice lines, which your team can inspect and change.
  • Optional invoice approvals before export.
  • Export to Xero, QuickBooks Online or FreeAgent.

We will share timing when the UK roadmap is published and the feature is ready. See how the current invoice automation workflow works.

What to do now

  • Keep your current process. No UK e-invoicing obligation applies yet.
  • List which clients or entities also trade in Ireland or the EU; some deadlines there are earlier. See the EU e-invoicing deadlines
  • Ask your accounting software provider how it will receive Peppol invoices and where the original file is stored.
  • Plan for a mixed inbox. Receipts, PDFs and foreign invoices will not disappear. Our guide to e-invoices, PDFs and receipts together covers this.
  • Watch for the implementation roadmap at Budget 2026.

When does UK e-invoicing become mandatory?

The government has announced 2029 for all VAT invoices. The detailed roadmap is due at Budget 2026, so treat any exact date before then as unconfirmed.

Is Datamolino a Peppol access point?

Datamolino's role is the inbox and what happens after an invoice arrives: review, coding, approval and export. On Peppol, invoices are delivered through certified service providers. We will explain how UK receiving is connected when the feature launches.

Will I still need document capture?

Yes. Receipts, PDFs from suppliers outside the network and many foreign invoices will still need capture. That is why Datamolino keeps both in one inbox.
